Go delicious with Delicious (Week 3)

It's been an interesting week and the good thing is  I can manage my time for this week. I decided to manage my time as Robert's rubric to assess us for this course..Midweek and the end of the week. I tried to do all the tasks before midweek at least one post for every task then spend the weekend to post other entries or comments. It worked for me at the beginning of this week because I have many things to do as I did on previous week and I don't want to feel the intensity which I felt last week. No more!

It is a "delicious week" according to Perizat. We are introduced to Delicious.  It's a web hosting or organizer for saving all the interesting links that we found on the internet so you don't have to save the links on notepad *like Shahnoza and I did* and we can share them with others. It's very interesting for me as a new user..Shahnoza told me about this last week and I decided to make one then I got the email from Robert that we had to make our own Delicious pages. Yay! It took me a while for getting used to it.. everytime I came across good websites, I think about my Delicious page..haha..
It's "delicious" to learn something new and is able to share it with others.

Along with "delicious journey" for this week,we also have 2 discussion threads this week..they are about Developing Listening Skills with Authentic Materials by Lindsay Miller and The Employment of CALL in Teaching Second/Foreign Language Speaking Skills by Julia Gong. These articles focus on Listening, Speaking and Pronunciation. It can't be avoided that technology becomes part of our teaching method unconsciously. For example, asking the  students to listen a record of a conversation between a doctor and a patient in the hospital using tape recorder but now we can use mp3 or CD. Reading these articles encourages me to learn more about using authentic materials which I thought they were difficult to find.I will talk about it on my next entry. I am eager to apply  all the things I have learned from this course and share them to my students. Can't wait for that..

  1. Hi Dhika,
I think you mentioned something very important here and that is how things are changing with technology. I believe that it is very important for all teachers to be updated with technology since most students are.

  3. Hi Dhika and Nada,

I agree with you. Technology is advancing day by day and we need to implement our knowledge gained in this course into our teaching as soon as possible. Also I hope that next coming weeks will be 'delicious' and full of new interesting things as we are having it now.

PS. Dhika, I'm glad that you are managing your time well now. I also trying to get used to Wednesday deadlines, but again I had to stay late till 3 am in order to post my ideas in discussion thread.

  4. I liked how you made a list of links on the side bar here in your blog. I think it's very convenient to use it.

  5. Hi Dhika
I also feel eager to apply all these new strategies that we are learning from the new articles and websites we are searching on.
It's funny how delicious get's into your life and then you want to apply for every single interest you have :) funny, hu?

And in terms of CALL techiques I feel we are very behind in my country. We do not have easy acccess to these softwares and applications, but I think that with creativity and willing to search more we will be able to apply these strategies at least in some schools and then make a connection and start interest. I think that the secret is to give it a try.

    Take care,
    CArol

  6. Hi Dhika,
I read your week three updat on your blog and I can see you also had a problem managing yout time.I am also experiencing the same because of lots of work that I have. However this week I managed to a del.icio.us page on Wednesday but reading other people's work and commenting on them on one hand and going through the suggested sites comprehensively is a tall order.

Another problem that I have concerns lack of technology in my school. Imagine I have not applied what we have already learned as I would wish but knowledge can be stored for future use.

Lots of love from East Africa.

  7. Hello Dhika! You know when I was getting familiar with the websites, I wanted to add all the links to my Delicious page, so I did so, as I think I will use them anyway. This week and the other weeks will be delicious because we are moving further and further with Robert and others from our nice group.
It is nice that we have many things in common, I mean how we accept this activity with this page and all the assignments.
After I created my Delicious page I faced some sites and opened delicious again and added more links. That is convenient, no doubt.

I agree with you that the most wonderful thing is that we can use everything we are taught here at our lessons and make students aware that we are rather modern and smart.

In general this course seems to be like the huge bag which we possess and value so much, and we are getting it full of many activities, skills, experience, etc. every time when we get different tasks from Robert. But I am afraid this bag is going to be filled so quickly that we have to take another one soon! That is awesome!

  8. Hi Dhika,
I am glad you managed your schedual better. I also try to do it the way you suggested. I also am eager to try all the great tips/sites/methodes asap. However, it is also true that there is so much that in additon to adding it to Delicious, we must carefully choose what is suitable for our porpose and adapt it in a ABCD learning objective manner.
One must admit that we are getting a very useful "tool kit" to work with, thanks to Robert and to our mutual cooperation. I am sure it will only get better!!

  9. Hi Dhika,

I like the background of your blog and the way it's organized.
I totally agree with you that getting more organized in doing our assignments is very important. You did a great job in finishing your tasks early and then have enough time to read and comment. On the contrary, I spend a lot of time reading almost everybody's comments and posts, having long time reflecting on them and comparing to my own context then rush to post and finish my tasks little bit late. I think I will follow your way next week. It seems more convenient and relaxing.

PS. Dhika, why don't you become one of my followers on my blob?

    Regards

    Hala

  11. Dear All..

@Nada : Yes, You're right.. they tend to follow the trend especially technology and we must to catch up with them. It will be wonderful if we can work with them through technology..isn't it?

@Shahnoza : I believe that we will have many new things everyweek since we do everyday in this course..our "bag" will be full and can't wait for applying them one by one ^^

PS. You had to wake late until 3 pm? it meant that you have to find a new strategy for managing your time.. Go Shahnoza Go !
About the list of the links..I made it before you told me about Delicious so I don't add more or it will be a long list :D

  12. @Carol : I have similar situation here in my city since it's a small city but as you said...we can find other ways to share what we have learnt in this course with the creativity and willing to search more..If we have a will..we will see the ways right before our eyes ^^

@Francis : Yes.. A tall order, indeed, but you know..we all can manage them one by one every week..Don't you think? eventhough some of us had to awake late till morning but we tried our best in this course..I believe we do..

I haven't applied these knowledge too due to many problems I have here..but both of us can save the "bag" for the future as Robert's quote : "ready shovels"

Goodluck for both of us ^^

  13. @Perizat : Delicious becomes one of my favorite sites now eventhough I only added one site since few days ago due to the slow internet connection and I also share to my colleagues here and my former colleagues in Central Java about it..It's fun to share something we know with others..isn't it ? ^^

Yes..we will need another huge bag for this course for sure ^^

@Nourit : No doubt that we will fulfill our Delicious page with a lot of information we have got and I agree with you that we have to choose carefully for our purpose. I think that's the tag takes place..we can tag them based on their functions ^^

Can you imagine that 20-30 people of us as "tool kit" (as you said) in one class? it will be remarkable for sure..

@Hala : Thank you for your compliment ^^
I think most of us did the same way like you including me at the beginning of the course then all of us overwhelmed with all of the tasks after that...That's the time to take another strategy..

    Goodluck ^^

PS. I am your follower now ^^
I tried it yesterday but I could find the button on the side of your blog then I found out that it was at the bottom of it..silly me ha ha

  14. Hi Dhika,
Delicious week for me too and for most of us, I am sure !

I share your eagerness to apply what we have learned with our colleagues and students. As we move on to a new week we can see how much we have learned from each other as well.

    Nice template for your blog.
